Put me on your site and help spread the word!

Blog-A-Thon 2007 begins July 28th at 6:00 a.m. U.S. Pacific time. A blogger schedule will appear here shortly listing who will be blogging at what time. Check back and see when your favorite blogger will be posting and cheer him/her on!

To show our IMMENSE appreciation for your support, every person who pledges through Write Stuff for First Book gets one of these badges. In addition, we will be holding various contests and raffles at different times throughout the Blog-A-Thon. What are these prizes? (List coming soon)

But this Blog-A-Thon is not about the cool badges or great prizes (though those are fun!), it’s about helping to fund programs for low-income families and give them the opportunity to read and own their first new books. It’s about helping to spread the word that reading is important and FUN! Won’t you please help?

Blog-A-Thon FAQ:

What IS a Blog-A-Thon?

During the Blogathon, people update their websites every 30 minutes for 24 hours straight. For this, they collect sponsorships. Pledges can be a flat donation, or a certain amount for every hour the blogger manages to stay awake.

What are the rules?

1. Each participant must update every 30 minutes for the 24-hour period beginning on July 29, 2006, at 6:00 AM Pacific Time. Everyone blogs during the same 24-hour period. For example, if you are blogging from Paris, France, you would begin at 4:00 pm (1600). In Sydney, Australia, you would begin at 11:00 pm (2300). You need not update right on the half-hour, so don’t panic about exactitude. Just be sure you’re updating once about every 30 minutes.

2. We lock down blogger profiles on July 21. No profile changes will be allowed after this date, so be ready. This does not affect sponsorships–you can gather sponsors until at least 48 hours after the event.

3. Your blog must be available to the public.

4. If you have script on your page that breaks your site out of frames, you must remove it before you sign up.

5. Don’t use an update script or other trick so you can go to bed and still blog. You must be awake and participating in person.

6. You are required to have fun

How do I sponsor?

Go to the list of bloggers, and when you find the Write Stuff window (click the “alphabetical” button, it’ll be faster to find us that way), click the “sponsor this blogger” link.

If you’re logged in, you’ll go right to the amounts page. Otherwise, you’ll be given the option to sign up or log in. Yes, you’ll need to sign up for an account in order to pledge. But this is a small price to “pay” (it’s free to sign up) in order to access a very nice interface that keeps track of your pledges and allows you to sponsor other Blog-A-Thon bloggers, too.

Choose how much you’d like to sponsor for, and whether it’s a lump sum, or an hourly amount.

Decide how you’d like to appear on the site, and to your blogger. You can be completely open, or completely anonymous. Either way, your email address is never published on the site.

Watch the event! Well, as much as you can stay up for.

After the event, you’ll receive two reminders from the folks at Blog-A-Thon directing you to your blogger’s charity to fulfill your pledge. If you have already donated, just disregard the email.

Why are you doing this?

Because the people at Write Stuff care about making sure every man, woman and child, have access to books and are capable of reading, and enjoying, them for years to come. We think everyone deserves the chance to read and enjoy the imagination of others.

What is First Book?

First Book is a nonprofit organization with a single mission: to give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books. We provide an ongoing supply of new books to children participating in community-based mentoring, tutoring, and family literacy programs.

First Book was founded in 1992. The First Book model was developed to leverage the work of local heroes who reach children through existing literacy programs in a variety of settings, such as Head Start centers, libraries, soup kitchens, churches, housing projects, and afterschool initiatives. Working through this vast network of organizations, First Book plays a critical role in transforming the quality of preschool and after-school programs nationwide.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
