[Fiction] Friday #53

[Fiction] Friday Challenge for May 2, 2008:

Write about a Tree.

How Fiction Friday works
Fiction Friday is easy to do.

  • Every Thursday, just check this page for this week’s theme or challenge.
  • Spend at least 5 minutes composing something original based on the theme or challenge.
  • But, remember, no editing. This is to inspire creativity not stifle it.
  • On Friday, simply post what you wrote to your own blog.
  • Then come back to Write Stuff and leave the link in the comment section below.

If you’re participating in the Write Stuff meme, please leave a link to your entry in the box below. (If you’re not participating, please don’t leave a link. People who aren’t playing will be removed). Please don’t forget to leave us a comment in addition to leaving a link!

Powered by… Mister Linky’s Magical Widgets.

If you’d like to participate further, just go visit some of the other links left by other participants, read what they wrote, and leave a comment. Just be sure that your comment is constructive—this is, after all, a meme to give us all a little writing practice.

Want more information? Want the code to drop into your own blog with no hassle? Visit the Fiction Friday page.

    Hi everyone,

Here’s my contribution. It’s a bit unusual, but I hope you all enjoy it. Sorry that I’m a bit irregular at the moment. Pressure of work and all that.

I Love a tree. I’m in the process of identifying and tagging all the trees on my property(We just moved there). I have some persimon, pear, peach, sassafras, maple, pecan, and many more I am still discovering. This month me & my husband decided that for our anniversary each year we will plant a tree.

    HOPE EVERYONE PLANTS A TREE.

I came up with at least half a dozen possible stories to go with this prompt - and what came out was strange, hard to write (there areas where the tenses are probably mucked up also!)

I had really strong images from the HBO series ‘Carnivale’ come up for me - the Tree of Life tattooed onto Father Justin Crowe and other quite stark images of the tree of life throughout Series 1 & 2.

I also admit to doing a little editing - I’m experimenting with Stephen Kings editing formula of subtracting 10% from the original. As this is currently the only writing I do in a week its my only opportunity to play with this really amazing writing tool.

I don’t get to play much any more, but a poem came to mind when I thought about the prompt for a few minutes. I hope you enjoy it.

I’ve taken a few weeks off and I’m happy to be back. I started writing and came up with this spooky start of a story.

Here’s my post for the week. Didn’t realize it would take me to this spooky story… I’ve been absent for a few weeks. Glad to be back.

    Late again!

I think this is a little obtuse, and the end is a wee bit clumsy. I’ll also admit to a little bit of editing to try to get some details from the (now deleted) first paragraph into other parts of the snippet.

Could stand to have some ruthless editing applied to it though…
