Website Aids

April 10th, 2008 Posted in Andrea, Resources

I received my June 2008 Writer’s Digest issue today. It contains their annual 101 Best Websites for Writers list. I like finding new resources and always look forward to this issue. I thought I would share a few they have listed.

1. The Story Starter - some people may not like using prompts. This site gives you a random sentence which you use to write a story.

2. Sharing With Writers and Readers - this is a blog by Carolyn Howard-Johnson who shares tips on how to promote your book at a low cost.

3. ShawGuides: Writing Workshops & Conferences - the title pretty much says it all. It’s a database of workshops and conferences.

4. Long Story Short- I had a story published in this ezine a couple of years ago. They are pretty good with the personal responses. While it is an ezine, they also offer writing workshops and personal webpages to promote your writing, for a yearly fee.

5. Newbie-Writers - this is a sister site of writing-world.com. It’s especially for new writers just starting their careers.

6. Today’s Woman - you would think this would be a site for just women, but 43 percent of the members are men. Thousands of members participate in its forum, online critiques and contests.

7. Agent In The Middle - Since Miss Snark decided to hang up her blogging shoes, you may be looking for another agent blog to read. Lori Perkins offers her 20 years of experience in this blog. Her specialties are horror, social science fiction, dark fantasy, dark literary novels and erotica.

8. A Newbie’s Guide to Publishing- this is a blog by writer J.A. Konrath. He provides some good information for writers.

9. Literary Agent Research & Evaluation - if you need to verify an agent, this site searches public records on a particular agency’s business practices.

10. Writers FM - this is an online radio station which broadcasts author interviews, writing prompts, music and mini-mysteries. Most of the material is available for podcast download.

This is an ongoing series: Part I, Part II, Part III, and Part IV.
